Underrated Actress ~ Ann Dowd

Ann Dowd

Ann Dowd is a veteran actress with more than 70 television and big-screen credits. Ann originally headed to college in her home state of Massachusetts to study pre-med, but later decided to pursue acting. She spent several years performing in regional theatre in the Chicago area, and moved to New York City in 1988 to pursue a bigger stage. She has won numerous awards for her stage work, and has appeared on Broadway three times. I had vaguely recognized Ann from other movies, but it was her performance in the independent psychological thriller Compliance, which is Underrated Movie #212 on this list, that really caught my attention. To me it is one of the most amazing acting jobs of all time, and Dowd should have been nominated for the Academy Award… and she should have won. Other notable appearances include Lorenzo’s Oil (1992), Philadelphia (1993), Shiloh (1996), TV’s The X-Files (1999), TV’s NYPD Blue (2000), TV’s Freaks and Geeks (2000), Flags of Our Fathers (2006), Marley & Me (2008), The Informant! (2009), and Side Effects (2013). Click here for a complete list.

About Underrated Movies
My name is Eric and I created this blog for the simple reason that I love to find hidden gems that go under the radar. So you can get an idea of my tastes, my favorite all-time movies include (among many others) Aliens (plural), Braveheart, The Shawshank Redemption, Field of Dreams, Misery, Mississippi Burning, The Untouchables, Die Hard, and Superman: The Movie. I have a massive list of over 250 underrated, under-appreciated, and/or overlooked movies, and I am always on the lookout for more. I will occasionally update this blog with a new selection. Each entry has links to the Internet Movie Database, a top critic’s review of the movie, Netflix, a link to the trailer, and a link to purchase and/or watch the movie instantly on Amazon. I would earn a small commission if you buy on Amazon after clicking my link, so consider making a purchase if you enjoy this blog.
