Underrated Movie #341 ~ The Invitation

The Invitation
A man accepts an invitation to a dinner party hosted by his ex-wife, an unsettling get-together that reopens old wounds and creates new tensions. And what are the hosts’ real motives? (Netflix) This is pretty much a bulls-eye. Not 100% perfect, but this kind of high quality thriller doesn’t come around very often. This psychological thriller will make you squirm. Available for instant viewing on Netflix as of right now. I recommend not watching the trailer so that nothing is revealed before you watch. And “No,” that is not Tom Hardy, it’s Logan Marshall-Green, Hardy’s doppelganger. My Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars.

Underrated Movie #340 ~ The Kings of Summer

The Kings of Summer
Chafing under his widowed father’s control, Joe Toy invites a friend and an offbeat new kid to help him build his own house in the nearby woods. Now that the trio is finally free from parents and responsibility, what’s next? (Netflix) This movie has a lot of surprising laugh-out-loud moments. The best comedy I’ve seen in a while, even though I wasn’t really expecting a comedy. The kid “Biaggo” might be one of the funniest characters in movie history. My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Stars.
