Underrated Movie #315 ~ Thin Ice

Thin Ice
Yes! This is the kind of hidden gem I’m looking for. A black comedy mixture of Fargo, A Simple Plan, and The Spanish Prisoner. Midwest insurance salesman Mickey Prohaska (Greg Kinnear) hatches a get-rich-quick scheme that depends on him gaining possession of a rare and precious violin, but his planned score results in wild and unexpected consequences. Alan Arkin, Billy Crudup and Lea Thompson co-star in this meditation on lying and its consequences, written by sisters Jill and Karen Sprecher (Clockwatchers). (Netflix) My Rating: 4.75 out of 5 Stars.

Underrated Movie #297 ~ Sleuth

Sleuth
Laurence Olivier stars as Andrew Wyke, an unhappily married man who wants to rid of his wife without paying alimony. Aware of his spouse’s affair with Milo Tindle (Michael Caine), Wyke tells Tindle to rob the house and leave with the wife and her jewelry. The planned break-in sets off a string of twists that will keep you guessing who has the upper hand in this smart psychological thriller from director Joseph L. Mankiewicz. My Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars.
